The medieval city of Avignon was home to the Popes in the 14th century. In July the town hosts Europe's biggest theatre festival with plays, dance, music and street theatre from all over the world. The city has many other museums, great shops,cafes and bars, and of course the glorious river Rhone. Call into the Tourist office on rue Republique for up to date information on all that is going on.

If you're having a day in Avignon, don't miss the Angladon Museum - the private collection of Jean et Paulette Angladon-Dubrujeaud bought using the fortune made from 1920s haute-couture. The 18th, 19th and 20th century paintings, furniture and porcelain are housed in their old Avignon home, a now converted into a museum.
