The village of Mirabel remains unspoiled by mass tourism ia is lively, but has an authentic feel about it. It has all the shops you need should you want to leave the car behind for a few days. It has two bars, serving lunch and a good restaurant. There is a butcher, tabac, an épicerie, a post office, a chemist, and two bakers. The village nestles in a beautiful area of Provence with wonderful views of the Baronnies mountains. It lies about 15 minutes north of Vaison la Romaine, and 10 minutes south of Nyons famous for its microclimate and olives! Mirabel has an interesting 13th century church and fountain, lovely old cobbled streets which meander among the houses and shops, and a family run olive oil mill.
It is an excellent region for hikers and there are many mountain bike trails. There is also a municipal tennis court (supply your own rackets). Close by Vaison la Romaine has an important weekly market on Tuesdays where you can buy locally grown produce and regional specialties. Nyons has an equally good market on Thursdays. Vaison-la-Romaine has Roman ruins and an amphitheatre, a Summer music Festival and a mediaeval village to explore, and among the many bars, cafes and restaurants, is a Michelin starred establishment. Nyons also a Roman town, is renown for its olive oil, some of which has the designation Appellation Controlée. Nyons is also home to a olive museum.
